A bite point that has climbed means the plate is worn thin. The test is a hill in third: hold it, and if the revs rise without the car doing the same, the plate is slipping.
We road-test it with you and measure the clutch travel. Sometimes it is the cable or a leaking slave cylinder, which is a fraction of the price, and we check that first because it would be dishonest not to.
