31 Spanish Town Road, Kingston

The garage

Two ramps, a bay for electrical work, a welder, and three people who have all worked here long enough to know which cars on this road are held together with hope. Small on purpose: two cars at a time is what we can look after properly.

What is in here

Two ramps and a bay

  • Ramp 1 — brakes, services, cooling and air conditioning. The quick-turnaround ramp: if your car is on it, you are usually leaving with it the same day.
  • Ramp 2 — suspension, clutches, timing belts, anything that needs the gearbox out or the welder on. This is the ramp that gets booked two days at a time.
  • The bay — batteries, alternators, starters and electrical faults, with the scanner and the load tester on the trolley.
  • The parts board — every bag of old parts hanging with a registration on it, waiting to be collected with the car.

Inside

What it looks like

No showroom, no coffee machine. A bench in the shade, a kettle, and a ramp you are welcome to stand beside while your car is on it.

Rocker arms and valve springs on a cylinder head with the cover off, oil still on the metal
A head off a car that came in for a timing belt and stayed for a week.
Red and black jump leads clamped to a car battery under an open bonnet
The load tester goes on before the jump leads come off. A battery that starts a car is not the same as a battery that is good.
A white van parked against the stone wall of a warehouse building with a palm tree at the corner
The apron outside. Park here, not on Spanish Town Road, or somebody's truck will find your mirror.
